Aleix Espargaro to run CEV Repsol team

Valentino Rossi is not the only MotoGP™ rider venturing into team management for 2014. Whereas the former World Champion will back a squad in Moto3™, Aleix Espargaro will be helping to boost the careers of up and coming talents in Spain’s CEV Repsol series.
Espargaro has always maintained a very close relationship with the CEV Repsol championship, in which he competed in its 125 class in 2004 which was the same year he made his World Championship debut. The following season, his dream became a reality as the Spaniard stepped up to the World Championship full-time.
"This is an idea I have always had," Espargaro explains, "perhaps for later, when I retired, but now we have been presented with an opportunity and decided to take it up. The initial thought was to start from below, with the Copa de España, but the impact of the CEV Repsol allows us to really get the concept into motion.
"The idea is to organise a structure around two young and fast riders, with the intention of winning the CEV championship, and if possible to give them a World Championship race as a wildcard. The bikes will be KTMs, the like of which powered Alex Rins and Alex Marquez this year and which we know are first-class material. One rider will be Gabriel Rodrigo, while we are yet to confirm the other."
Espargaro’s ambitious new challenge will come in parallel with his own MotoGP™ switch from Power Electronics Aspar to NGM Mobile Forward Racing.
"Even though my professional commitments take priority, I always like to surround myself with bikes, so if I am able to use my experience to enhance the careers and up-and-coming riders, all the better for it," the 24-year-old Catalan concludes.
